The HISTORY and GEOGRAPHY of COLLEGE HILL (CHAMP)
◊ The University of Tulsa, which is North of 11th street, in Tulsa, Oklahoma was established when Kendall College moved from Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1907 and the campus grew on a piece of land that became known as College Hill. The Presbyterian Church that was established, just West of the campus, is still know as College Hill
Presbyterian Church.
◊ Standing at the Northeast corner of the University of Tulsa at 4th and Harvard Avenue, and looking down Harvard, you can see the hill running to the South. From this vantage point it is easy to see why the topographical area was called College Hill. If you are on the West side of the McFarlin Library on the T.U. campus and look towards downtown Tulsa, you can also see the hill aspect.
◊ College Hill is said to be the second oldest shopping area outside of downtown Tulsa (circa 1920).
The LOCATION of COLLEGE HILL
◊ CHAMP is bounded on the North by 11th, and on the South by 21st, Harvard Avenue on the East, Lewis Avenue on the West, with 15th, and the B.A. Expressway bi-secting the Square Mile in MID-TOWN.
Some SPECIFICS about COLLEGE HILL
◊ CHAMP (College Hill Association of Merchants and Professionals) is a collection of stores and businesses in a shopping area much like a small town in middle America 1960's with a 21st Century moderness.
◊ College Hill (CHAMP) is an event just waiting to happen and is saying BIG BOX look out because CHAMP is going to give the shopping public what it wants: real service at a fair price with merchants that know your name, and shop pets that greet you and ask for a treat or a hug. CHAMP is a place where shoppers will come back and visit because CHAMP does not see shoppers as only a $ but VERY SPECIAL FRIENDS.
